The Light Surgeons are a cross-disciplinary production company who approach their subject matter though a combination of documentary film, photography, animation and music production. They weave these disciplines together using frag­mented narratives and live improvisation using cutting edge audiovisual performance tools.

The True Fictions project set out to explore the roots of cinema and storytelling by investigating the various thresholds of truth and myth themselves. The Light Surgeons began by gathering documentary material from the local people of Troy, New York, unearthing many opposing views on a range of sub­jects in the most culturally diverse state of America.

This web of stories and homespun narratives was finally combined with an original musical score that took its inspiration from the Dadaist game of Exquisite Corpse. The resulting material is a fusion of different musical genres; jazz, folk and hip-hop are mixed together with classical and electronic influences. The final performance brings all these musical and narrative elements together on stage as a kaleidoscopic, multi-screen cinematic experience.
