Catalyst Arts presents

Martha Colburn and Logikparty

Waterfront Penthouse Bar
Thursday 22nd July, 10pm

To launch the Danse Macabre exhibition in Catalyst Arts, stop motion animator Martha Colburn will be collaborating with Dublin based Logikparty in a one off performance in the Penthouse Bar in the Waterfront. The band will be playing a set accompanied by two live 16mm film projections from the filmmaker.

Logikparty is a Dublin based four-piece creating music that is aggresive, atonal and austere, influenced by bands like Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Bush Tetras and James Chance and the Contortions and more great things. They’ve just released their first limited edition 7″ on White Plague Records. With repetitive locked-groove rhythms, agitated vocals and abrasive guitars, their sound takes its cue from the art-punk and no-wave movements of the late 70s and early 80s. Fear and delight in equal measures….

In her work Martha Colburn utilizes the language and materials of filmmaking to comment on popular culture, consumerism, politics and sexuality. Through a collage of live action (paint-on-glass) animations, found footage and documentary filmmaking techniques, her stop motion animation films are a disturbing and at times humorous take on popular and political culture. Complementing her films, she creates elaborately layered collages, paintings, and installations that incorporate transparencies, recordings, and live performances.

She has created pieces to accompany the San Francisco-based band Deerhoof’s song “Wrong Time Capsule” in 2005 and Serj Tankien’s “Lie, Lie, Lie” in 2007, as well as an animation for the 2005 documentary about the musician Daniel Johnston entitled ‘The Devil and Daniel Johnston’. Most recently she appeared at All Tomorrow’s Parties curated by the Flaming Lips in NY alongside Deerhoof.
